Acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine (TMC) principle of balancing the flow of vital energy or Qi (pronounced “chee”) within the body. According to traditional Chinese medicine, Qi flows through specific pathways called meridians, acupuncture involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points along the body’s meridian pathways. These points are believed to correspond with organs and systems, and by stimulating them, acupuncture aims to restore the harmonious flow of qi, promoting overall health and well-being. Acupuncture also encourages the body’s natural healing mechanisms, improves circulation, reduces pain, and can address various physical and emotional conditions.

It’s important to note that while acupuncture is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, modern scientific research has provided evidence supporting its effectiveness in various conditions. Acupuncture is often used as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medical treatments, and it is important to consult a registered acupuncturist for proper treatment.

Holistic approach to health: One of the key benefits of acupuncture is its holistic approach to health. It aims to restore balance and harmony in the body by addressing not only the symptoms but also the underlying imbalances. Acupuncture treatments are personalized, taking into account the individual’s overall health and specific concerns.

Main benefits of acupuncture treatment include:

Pain management: Acupuncture is widely recognized for its effectiveness in managing various types of pain, alleviating acute and chronic pain conditions such as headaches, migraines, back pain, joint pain, and fibromyalgia. By stimulating specific points on the body, acupuncture promotes the release of endorphins and other natural pain-relieving chemicals, reducing pain perception.
Enhanced circulation: The application of massage techniques stimulates blood flow, allowing oxygen and nutrients to reach the body’s tissues more efficiently. Improved circulation benefits the body’s overall health, removing waste products, reducing inflammation, and supporting tissue healing.
Nerve function: Diabetes can lead to nerve damage, known as diabetic neuropathy, which often causes pain, numbness, and tingling in the extremities. Acupuncture may help alleviate these symptoms by promoting nerve regeneration, improving blood circulation to the affected areas, and reducing inflammation.
Cardiovascular Conditions: Acupuncture has been found to help lower blood pressure, reduce stress levels, improve blood circulation, support oxygen and nutrients delivery to the heart, reduce inflammation markers, which contribute to the management of cardiovascular conditions.
Stress reduction: Acupuncture has a calming effect on the body and mind, making it an effective treatment for stress and anxiety. By targeting specific acupuncture points, it can help regulate the nervous system, lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone), and promote a state of relaxation. This can lead to improved mental state and a greater sense of calm.
Improved sleep quality: Many individuals experience sleep disturbances due to various factors such as stress, pain, or hormonal imbalances. Acupuncture can help regulate sleep patterns and improve the quality of sleep by addressing underlying imbalances and promoting relaxation.
Enhanced mental health: Acupuncture is known to have positive effects on mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety. It can help rebalance the body’s energy flow, promote emotional stability, and improve overall mood. Acupuncture sessions are often accompanied by a sense of deep relaxation, which can have a profound impact on mental well-being.
Improved digestion: Acupuncture can help improve digestive health by addressing issues such as indigestion, bloating, constipation, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It can regulate gastrointestinal motility, reduce inflammation, and restore proper digestive function.
Boosted immune system: Acupuncture can enhance the body’s natural defense mechanisms, strengthening the immune system. It helps promote the production of immune cells, regulate immune responses, and improve overall immune function. This can lead to a reduced susceptibility to illness and faster recovery from illnesses.
Hormonal balance: Acupuncture has shown promising results in regulating hormonal imbalances in conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), menstrual irregularities, and menopausal symptoms. By targeting specific points, acupuncture can help regulate hormone production, reduce symptoms such as hot flashes and mood swings, and restore hormonal balance.

Improved fertility: Acupuncture is often used as a complementary therapy for individuals undergoing fertility treatments. It can help improve reproductive health by increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs, balancing hormones, reducing stress, and supporting overall well-being. Acupuncture can be beneficial for both men and women dealing with fertility issues.

Sports performance and recovery: Athletes often turn to acupuncture to enhance performance, prevent injuries, and aid in post-workout recovery. Acupuncture can help improve circulation, reduce muscle tension, and promote faster healing of injuries. It can also address specific sports-related issues like sprains, strains, and tendonitis.

ABOUT US

At Harmony Health & Wellness (HHW)

Motivated by her own quest for effective therapies and treatments not only for her own back problems, but also for people facing similar struggles, she founded the health clinic with a focus primarily on physical treatments initially for chronic pain and illness.

During her time as the clinic coordinator, Jacqueline realized that, while many clients exhibited physical symptoms, their underlying struggles were often rooted in deeper emotional distress, such as stress, anxiety/depression, relationship issues, and so on. Her unwavering fascination with understanding the intricacies of human nature, exploring people's inner experiences and their beliefs in life merged seamlessly with her passion for helping others. It propelled her to pursue her second Master's degree in Clinical Counselling, that laid the foundation for her to evolve into a highly regarded therapist in the subsequent years.

Throughout her life journey, Jacqueline has gained a unique insight of the multi-dimensioned nature of human experience. She integrates this wisdom and insight with her extensive clinical training, and brings with her a deep sense of empathy and compassion to every Individual & couple/family session with clients.
